The Alliance in association with KCBS/Channel 2, KCAL/Channel 9 and CityWatch will be sponsoring two Mayoral Debates to be televised in prime time on KCAL and KCBS in February of 2005. These events, to be held at CBS Television City in the Fairfax District, will provide Neighborhood Councils with an opportunity to appraise the major candidates for the Office of Mayor of Los Angeles. In the run-up to the March 8, 2005 Primary Nominating Election, the Alliance, KCBS, KCAL and CityWatch will present two live television debates: on KCAL/Channel 9, Monday, February 7, 2005 from 8:00-9:30 p.m. and on KCBS/Channel 2, Monday, February 28, 2005, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. These debates will be the only opportunity the candidates will have to face a true cross section of neighborhood stakeholders from across the entire city. The debate on February 7th will focus on LA Today, issues and concerns that the City faces now. The forum on February 28th will address the LA of Tomorrow and the vision of the Mayor that will lead the City into the future. A limited number of Neighborhood Council representatives will be able to directly question the candidates. Each candidate will answer the question, then the moderators from Channels 2and 9 will have an opportunity to direct follow-ups. The questions will be chosen from questions submitted by the Board Members and stakeholders of the 83 certified Neighborhood Councils throughout the city and the three forming NC’s that are being tracked by the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. Here’s the way we’ll do it: In order to be fair and represent a cross section of the City, each Neighborhood Council will be allotted seven seats for each of the two events. The President/Chair of each NC will be responsible for submitting a list of authorized attendees to the Alliance prior to January 15th. Each NC is free to determine how they wish to allocate their seats. Presidents are encouraged to contact our area representatives listed below. Potential questions from NC’s or NC stakeholders to the Candidates should also be forwarded by the Presidents/Chairs in a similar manner.
